Methods for changing passwords

* Important Note: before starting please be aware of the following password rule restrictions. Complexity requirements are enforced upon password change or creation. See rules below:

  1. Your userID or name may not be part of your password
  2. Use 7 characters or more in length.
  3. Contains characters from three of the following four categories
  • English upper case characters ( A .. Z )
  • English lower case characters ( a .. z )
  • Base 10 digits ( 0 .. 9 )
  • Nonalphanumeric ( example: !$%*# )

For Windows 95, 98, ME and NT, we strongly recommended using 7 characters for your password containing a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers and at least one non alphanumeric character(s) . The following link gives information on why this is recommended as well as tips for stronger passwords:

http://www.securityfocus.com/focus/microsoft/nt

For Windows 2000 and XP we recommend using at least 7 characters. The longer the password the better your protection will be.

For those not configured to log into a domain, after changing your password, please wait 15 minutes before attaching to a share to allow the domain to replicate any changes.
